Dive Borneo Your Way
We offer a range of diving options in both Indonesian and Malaysian Borneo. These diving trips work perfectly as a holiday on their own or even better as an addition to one of our trekking, cycling or orangutan tours.
All of our dive providers are PADI approved and have a fabulous safety record, but the choice is yours. If you want to return to five star luxury after your dive then Sipadan Water Village or Mabul Water Bungalows may be for you. If you are after something a little different, try Seaventures Dive Rig and sleep on a converted oil rig, complete with house reef! If you’d rather visit a dive site in Indonesian Borneo then Derawan Dive Lodge is a secret little hideaway perfect for a quiet getaway.
If you don't dive, don't worry! You can complete your diving certificate during your stay, or just don a snorkel and enjoy from above!

Sipadan and Mabul, Sabah
About the Area
Sipadan is recognised as some of the best diving in the world. Sipadan is the only oceanic island in Malaysia, rising 600m from the seabed. It was formed over thousands years by coral growing on top of an extinct volcano, so you dive along what seems like an endless wall of coral and sea creatures.
Enjoy amazing diving scenes such as schools of barracudas, greenback turtles, big-eye trevally, manta rays, eagle rays, reef sharks, hammerhead sharks, whale sharks, not to mention all the tiny creatures such as nudibranch, squid, and Nemos galore!
Scuba diving Sipadan is year round with the best time being between April and December.
Sipadan Island topped Rodale's Scuba Diving Magazine Gold List for 'The Top Dive Destination in the World'. In fact it shared its top spot with two other destinations known for the amazing diversity of their marine life - the Galapagos Islands and Truk in Micronesia. - Dive the World.
We offer a range of accommodation options at Mabul, the closest island with accommodation to Sipadan.
Mabul Water Bungalows
This is ultimate luxury… You may find it difficult to get on the boat and head out to dive! You will call spacious, private and fully-serviced bungalows home. Eat beautiful food in the dining room and watch the sunset over the tropical water from the bar. There’s also a house reef and you can dive as many times a day as you like here, in addition to the three dives a day included in the diver package. This is perfect if you have a family member who doesn’t want to dive as they can snorkel, swim, get a massage or just relax during the day.
Sipadan Water Village Resort
Slightly less opulent than Mabul Water Bungalows, but still accommodation to die for. Again, you’ll sleep in a private bungalow and have plenty of delicious food to eat and activities to keep everyone happy. All meals, accommodation, dive rental and three dives per day included in the package, with snorkelling and unlimited additional dives on the house reef included, too.
SeaVentures Dive Rig
Serious about your diving and looking for something a little different and a little more ‘hip’! SeaVentures Dive Rig is a converted oil rig, a 5-minute boat trip (or 30 minute swim) to Mabul. If you want to dive as much as possible and be around like-minded ‘scuba-nuts’ then this is the place for you. The staff at SeaVentures are all very passionate divers and they’ll be sure to show you an amazing time. All meals, dive hire, accommodation, three to four dives plus unlimited house reef dives off the rig each day and underwater videographer included. Plus, you can sit on the sun deck and watch the sun set over Mabul - what more could you want?!
Derawan Archipelago, East Kalimantan
About the area
The Derawan islands must be everyone’s dream of the perfect tropical paradise, complete with white-sand beaches, pristine tropical water and amazing sea life, all without the crowds of the more well-known dive spots. Ranked among the best in the world, diving at Derawan you’ll swim with giant turtles, dolphins, manta rays, dugongs and barracudas, stingless jellyfish and, if luck is on your side, whales.
Located just away from the mainland of East Kalimantan in the district of Berau, the Derawan archipelago comprises 31 islands, most well known among these are the islands of Derawan, Maratua, Sangalaki and Kakaban. It is one of the largest marine conservation areas in Indonesia, covering 1.27 million hectares. This area is Indonesia’s largest nesting site of giant green turtles and hawksbill turtles, both of which are endangered. Just outside the lodge, you’re likely to see turtles laying their eggs in the sand and relaxing under the water while you’re diving.
Life on Earth is not evenly spread around our planet. Borneo – the world's third largest island - is one of its richest treasure-houses, full of an immense variety of wild animals and plants, all living in a magnificent tropical forest. - Sir David Attenborough
Derawan Dive Lodge
With just 10 rooms, Derawan Dive Lodge is the perfect place for a little escape. Derawan Dive Lodge has a family feel, with friendly staff that will go the extra mile to make your stay an enjoyable one. This is a great spot for divers and non-divers alike, with lots of relaxing and lounging on the beach to be done if that is your thing.
Packages at Derawan Dive Lodge include 3 dives per day, dive hire and all of your meals, so you won’t have to think about a thing once you get there!

Not ready to leave just yet?
Our dive tours at Sipidan and Mabul work well with all of our other tours in Malaysian Borneo (or even our Camp Leakey Orangutan Tour). You can easily tack of a trip to the Sepilok orangutan centre, turtle island or a stay in a dive resort.
Our Derawan dive tour fits perfectly onto the end of our Camp Leakey Orangutan tour where you can meet some of our closest ancestors in their natural habitat.
We even tell you what to pack!
Borneo’s climate is tropical, with temperatures ranging between a humid 22 to 34 degrees during the day. Depending on the time of year, it will likely rain during the day, particularly between November and February in monsoon season so you need to be prepared and always carry something dry to change into. We will provide you with an example of a suitable packing list based on suggestions from our guides and previous travellers.
See the sights...
